Procurement is on the front line of your organization's climate strategy. Are you ready?

Every procurement team must grasp the basics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management and related best practices to drive and support meaningful Scope 3 reductions.  Similarly, sustainability teams focused on engaging procurement must also understand the most effective ways to collaborate and support their purchasing teams on this journey.

That’s where Climate Foundations comes in.   The Climate Foundations for Procurement program is a comprehensive virtual training and coaching program specifically designed for professionals focused on addressing the climate impact of their organization's spend.

Once again in 2025, SPLC is pleased to offer a shortened version of our signature Climate Foundations program -  Compact Edition - for professionals needing to quickly come up to speed on the basics and take action on climate issues in their supply chains.

Become equipped with the knowledge, tools, and strategic approach you need to develop an initial Scope 3 supply chain GHG emissions reduction plan.  Apply your learnings to your organization in "real-time" by leveraging practitioner-approved approaches and tools while being supported by your peers along the way.   Includes eight 90-minute virtual sessions spanning over an eight week period.

Download the course schedule

What you will learn:

  • Basic terminology, frameworks, and approaches for Scope 3 supply chain greenhouse gas emissions accounting, strategic prioritization, goal-setting, and performance monitoring on any budget.
  • Common approaches and tools to prioritize, engage, support, and incentivize suppliers in meaningful greenhouse gas reporting and reduction activities.
  • The challenges that all organizations face when reporting on and managing their Scope 3 GHG supply chain emissions; and how leaders are collaborating to ensure their climate plan is properly aligned to the most critical opportunities.
  • Examples of organizations that have taken a "program approach" to strategically reduce their supply chain greenhouse gas impact in prioritized areas.

Key takeaways:

  • Familiarity with climate-related terminologies, frameworks, and concepts that involve procurement and supply chain

  • strategic climate plan for greenhouse gas emissions reduction focused on what you buy — including key stakeholders, vision, focus areas, and next steps

  • A supplier engagement plan designed to lay the groundwork for delivering key supplier greenhouse gas emissions data, reduction commitments, and continued progress

  • A climate network of multi-stakeholder experts and peers.

  • A certificate of completion for completing the program (CEU credits available via ISM)

"SPLC Climate Foundations program provided a framework of thinking and helped develop a sustainable procurement program for my organization. Additionally, I now have a deeper understanding of GHG reporting, engaging suppliers, science based targets, and more."   - Irma Rovaite-Harpley, American Red Cross
