Professional Bio
In my work at Rijkswaterstaat I consult the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Water Management on sustainable procurement in both construction, IT and facility management. How to use the power of this demand for strategic objectives in policy and ambitions of organisations. My expertise is on how to translate these objectives into impact in practice by setting up collaboration and creating commitment to make this more than a one-time action.
For over 15 years my focus within sustainability used to be on energy and climate in buildings; but since 10 years working in procurement my focus has shifted towards materials and products and the debate of the Circular Economy. This circularity is not just a new topic, but it addresses key issues in our global economy and relates to new business models and processes for both supply and demand who need to challenge their current linear systems. It provides new opportunities in collaboration within the chain and creating new value from the reuse of resources, while delivering on objectives both in sustainability, social and economic issues. We have initiated many pilots to test these new models, both in the Netherlands and other pioneering organisations in Europe. These give us valuable lessons we can share, while preparing the make a next step in collaboration within the chain and partnerships between big buyers who collectively can make a difference.
