A Note from SPLC CEO Marc Heisterkamp

Blog,

This week’s U.S. election results prove challenging to continued progress in areas SPLC has prioritized in our decade of catalyzing the sustainable procurement movement. This includes real concerns about the future of climate change mitigation, decarbonization, supplier diversity, human rights, and many other areas critical to humanity and our planet. The path to progress is no doubt more difficult as we navigate the anticipated priorities and actions of the incoming Trump Administration and U.S. Congress.

However, we know that corporations, state and local governments, and universities will continue to lead. To be clear, government regulation and government agency support and leadership have been crucial to past market transformation in the United States. It will continue to be crucial and impactful throughout the world. And at the same time, leading companies and organizations like SPLC members will forge ahead, creating markets, revolutionizing supply chains, and ensuring truly scalable and economically viable progress. Additionally, voluntary and regulatory progress around the globe and within leading U.S. states can continue to drive progress.

This gives the sustainable procurement movement resilience and momentum, regardless of national politics. SPLC remains committed to driving sustainable procurement forward as a force for good—because progress can’t wait, and now is the time to accelerate our efforts.
